Boca Chica

We had the itchin' to go to the beach today since we weren't heading to Bonao to buy the car (waiting for paycheck to go through). We decided on Boca Chica, a very popular beach that's only 30min away. We found the perfect spot away from all the barely dressed crowd farther down the beach. I unpleasantly discovered on a stroller walk to put Darton to sleep that a handful of people thought were on a nude beach in the more populated area. It was a good day of R&R in the sun.

We witnessed a baptism from a distance .

Did we tell you we bought a yacht?

Our little ham.
Darton can now suck out of a straw.

And I guess I should tell you about our scare...I was holding on to Darton in a blue floaty while Adeline was walking around. She walked away from me without me noticing into the deeper water. A man from the beach yelled "mira" (look). I turned around to see that Adeline was completely under the water trying to come up for air. I let go of Darton to grap her and in result when Darton flipped out of his floaty. I made it back to him with Adeline now in my arms and Scotty running out to us. It was not a fun moment and one that made me reevaluate my "relaxed" parenting skills. Strangers walking by in the water also came to help out. Praise God only some water was swallowed which Adeline promptly got out of her system. Darton wasn't under long enough to suck in much water. It took the rest of the afternoon though for him to want to get back into a floaty. Adeline also eventually wanted to walk in the water without holding your hand.

Help, Nightly Visitor, Trash

Last Saturday we drove to the countryside to look at a car to buy - Toyota Prado (not found in the States). We plan to go back this Saturday to pick it up. Who knew that our perfect car would be found outside the city? Ok..well God did and hank you that He worked it all out for us. It's the perfect vehicle for the perfect $. Well...perfect price in that $15,000US is the cheapest you can spend on a vehicle here that won't leave us stranded in a pothole! It's a safe bet to say that it's probably the most $ we will see my hubby buy a car for....but has he ever bought me something that wasn't nice even if it was cheaper than average???? There was that one Valentine's Day.... ;)

Sunday our friends Denny & Cynthia and Edwin & Maria came over for some Egyptian Vegetables. We stepped out on the front porch to wave good-bye and found a nice PVC pipe hanging from the power line - it's your guess how it got there and unfortunately it's not coming down until a big gust of wind catches it.
Monday was a National Holiday here and we had 2 Barrick families over. It was a nice BBQ. Both families are South African and I asked who had the big screen TV for the SuperBowl this Sunday. They asked "what's the SuperBowl"? We're no longer in Kansas, Toto!

The big news for the week was the addition to our family! Ana, the young woman who was coming once a week to clean, is now living with us Monday through Wednesday. She is a much more helpful additon to our family that Sarah was last Fall :). Speaking of our Sarah..she is doing good and going through the potty training process which means about 22hrs of her day is spent in a room with paper right now. Next week she'll be able to be with us more in the entire house.

Ana has lifted so much stress off of my back. I no longer spend my days grinding my teeth. She is a Christian woman which makes a world of difference and the kids love her.

On Tuesday night I was turning off the computer and straightening the desk area around 11p when I discovered a little nightly visitor sitting under some receipts. After gathering my breath and thoughts about what to do about this little creature that I was not dare going to touch, I went downstairs and got the guardsman. All I was able to tell him in Spanish was "come to my apartment," "little animal" and then stick my tongue in and out to imitate the lizard. He was really confused and had a good laugh when he saw it.

And this wasn't a small calculator! I guess dust and noise isn't the only thing coming in our windows.

Backyardigans

I am so proud of my husband for making the first big entertainment purchase for the kids!! We might not ever get to Disney World, but we'll have fun trying to get him there ;).
He bought tickets for us to see the Backyardigans in person. Adeline had a lot of fun. Darton was entertained more than I expected. At least he would wear the hat!

A classic bath with Darton's classic smile!

It's the Small Things

It's the small things in life that are just wonderful! The small things this week have been finding brown sugar and Wheat Thins in the DR!!!

Back in the DR

I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, just didn't get around to blogging while in TX. We're back now and I hope to post some pics of the kids soon.
We had a wonderful visit in TX but longed to actually get back home. I knew once we arrived I'd be ready to see family again though. ;)
Our first night back I told Scott that the DR now feels like home instead of Elko since we had traveled to and from here to get to family in TX. Don't worry Elko, you still have a very special place in our hearts!
